Sydney Street Photography Workshop (March 15th-16th 2025) with Hashem McAdam
Join me on the streets of Sydney for a practical 2-day workshop. I love engaging with the world through street photography and sharing my passion with like-minded photographers. Drawing from my 10+ years of experience shooting at home and abroad, my approach is about being present and learning to "see" on the streets.
📍 Location: Sydney CBD and Glebe
🎟️ Limited Spots Available – Maximum 5 students
📺 Includes a one-hour video call consultation and portfolio review.
What You'll Learn
✅ How to improve your confidence on the street
✅ Techniques for candid capture vs interaction
✅ Technical skills for digital or film capture
✅ Ethical considerations when photographing strangers.
✅ The significance of "being present" on the street
This workshop is ideal for beginners and enthusiasts looking to refine their street photography skills.
Schedule & Inclusions
- Pre-workshop video call consultation to assess your current position and goals
- Meet and greet on Friday night with mini shooting session (optional)
- Full-day workshop and guided walk on Saturday. This will start with a morning briefing over coffee. We'll hit the central streets before breaking for lunch. We'll then head to Glebe Point Road together for the Sydney Streets event.
- Second-day guided walk on Sunday. We'll start after lunchtime at Haymarket, work our way up the central streets towards Circular Quay (and/or check out Holi Festival at Tumbalong Park!) and end with a debrief over dinner.
- Hands-on feedback
- Post-workshop review
What you'll need
- Your own camera of choice (digital, film, or smartphone). You may bring multiple cameras, but I recommend focusing on one tool.
- Spare batteries/film
- Suitable shoes for a lot of walking (important!)
- Weather-appropriate clothing/gear
- A full checklist and schedule will be provided during the video call
Questions/ follow-up
Please use the contact page to send any specific enquiries regarding the workshop. Extended information will be provided by email to ticket purchasers. In the meantime, here are some FAQs:
- Why the small group cap? It's important for me to have sufficient one-on-one time with individual participants, thus the maximum group size.
-
What if I didn't receive an email after purchase? You will receive a shop order confirmation email, followed by a separate email from me to set up your video call. If you don't receive either of these, please check your spam/junk folder. You can also get in touch using the contact form or info@pushingfilm.com
- What happens if it rains? We go ahead, rain hail or shine. In my opinion, that is the dynamic nature of street photography, and what often creates the best results and experience. If you don't think you're willing or equipped, that is okay. With prior notification, we can discuss options (such as transferring your spot to a future workshop).
- What if I want to shoot on film? Shooting entirely on film is welcome. Naturally, this will make the review of images difficult during the weekend. In this case, review can be deferred to a post-workshop call.
- Can I get a refund after purchase? Given the short lead time for these March 2025 workshops, I encourage you to discuss any concerns or likelihood of cancellation as soon as possible. Depending on the notice time, and whether your spot can be filled, I will be happy to discuss options such as refund or credit.
